rick_evans, if you would read into it, you'd see that the 1940's statement was made to tell you that vehicles have been made to run with ethanol since day 1. If you'd actually run more than 10% Ethanol, you'd realize the gains in power with running the fuel.
Don't bash it until you try it.

"In the '40s Henry Ford used hemp-based plastic in the body of his automobiles & those same cars were fueled with hemp-based ethanol."
I'll consider your advice when I want to make my '07 Toyota run like a 1940 Ford.

91firebrand-
SUPPORTING Coburn and Koch Industries? HELL NO!
That's exactly why we should SUPPORT ethanol.
Koch wants to kill Americans and earn evil money from Satin.
Coburn is evil. Koch is the anti-Christ.

And it's certainly not replacing gas. In fact, ethanol might be limited soon....

But I use the same amount of gas either way. I can buy E0 and go ~400 miles, or buy E10 and go ~360 miles. I'm not saving gas, but I am filling up more often. No thanks.
The problem is we can't grow enough ethanol to run the country. A better idea is CNG. It's cleaner burning than E85, cheaper, and we have several Trillion(!) barrel equivalents available in North America.

Ethanol is replacing gas. Those people like me who fill their vehicles with ethanol rather than gasoline are cutting down on the amount of oil that the United States purchases. FACT!
OPEC is afraid of this. Just as I would be afraid if something more efficient, and cheaper was put on the market to replace a product in which I offered.

Why should OPEC be afraid of ethanol as all it does is make us use more gas thereby using more oil. Ethanol milage is far less than whole gas milage.

We also had the Arab oil embargo which brought America long gas lines and rationing in some areas.
Another oil embargo would certainly bring America to its knees.
