Love this city. But, as a Texas resident, I know better than to trade my hot and humid Houston summer for a hot and drier San Antonio summer.
Much better to visit SA and the Hill Country in the cooler days of autumn. Of course, it will still be plenty warm for a t-shirt and shorts but you won't be scorching hot.
I've always avoided the Riverwalk since it is such a tourist trap. I prefer the north and northwest suburbs of the city since it is much prettier and hillier there. Though, Garner State Park to the west-southwest is a wonderful park to hike and camp in.

Very nice city! Riverwalk, Alamo, Ft. Sam Houston. Good Food! Not too fond of the freeway system - a map or GPS is helpful. Good website: www.visitsanantonio.com.

Yes, been there 2x. River Walk is so nice -- especially at night with its lights along the canal. Take the boat tour! Stayed at Hilton right on River Walk end. The Alamo is the size of small 2 car garage and was disappointing -- its lost amongst other buildings and if you didnt know it was there youd walk past it. May be rich in "history"....but eh, didnt care for it.

Yes, the Alamo was a moving experience and the Riverwalk was a very nice place to eat and shop. We have no negative vibes from this trip.

Yes, I went to the Riverwalk, Botanical Gardens, The Alamo, Natural Bridge Caverns, and Ripleys Believe it or not. It was during the month of February of 2010. My most positive memory was that I had a week of blast for my birthday, and the negative was I was not ready to go from having so much fun there.

San Antonio, Texas
The Alamo is one of the most historic places to visit in the San Antonio, Texas area. It is a must see.
Before you go to the Alamo, read some history about it and what happened there. Knowing the past will make the experience more memorable and meaningful. If you have kids, explain to them what happened, and why it is important in history. There are guides inside that will answer questions and give you brief summaries about the history of the Alamo. When you arrive at the Alamo, outside there is a stand where you can purchase headphones, which will give you an audio tour of the Alamo and its contents. The best time to go to the Alamo is afternoon. If you go in the morning, pictures are not as good due to glare from the sun being overhead. If you do visit in the morning or early afternoon hours, stop by the front entrance in the evening for a great picture of the sun setting and the glow on the entrance. If you are visiting in the summer, check the hours, they are extended. Be sure to take your camera. You are not permitted to take pictures in the main building, however, elsewhere you can. There are a lot of good picture taking spots for memorable pictures. Make sure to pack some water in your bag, sometimes there are lines to get into the main building. Fix it

The riverboat was great as was the Alamo. Also took a day trip to see Johnsonville to visit President Johnson's ranch. No negative experiences.

Yes 1969 basic training at Lackland AFB. Went to the Space Needle (Tower of Americas). What a view! Saw the Alamo (much smaller than the one John Wayne fought at)

Two years ago. The River Walk is fun, and it's actually being expanded. The Alamo was very moving. We stopped at a fun bar too, where they have lot's of stuffed animals.

San Antonio is awesome! Go to the river walk. There is a restaurant on the other side of the river form the Hard Rock Cafe where part of the experience is to use foul language when talking to your wait person! Too funny! Hey Biotch, get the F*** over here and take my F'ing order you dumb Ho! LOL

Oh my GOSH YES! I love San Antonio. I will be heading back there soon. I think everything in the River Walk area is so much fun. Get restaurants....visited the Alamo of course and took in all the small surrounding towns. There is so much to do around there. OF course the summer isn't fun with humidity but there is always air conditioning......

Yes, March time frame is great for weather. March 6 is significant for the Alamo Riverwalk is wonderful. TexMex and Rib Eye steaks are great. Visiting in the summer months changes everything to the negative.
