Now I can feel relaxed with taking a car trip without fear of breaking down. I'm going to take a short excursion up to northern Vermont or Maine for end of season spring skiing. Spring is apparently a slow season (other than for skiers) and they are looking to fill seats.

From March 1st to mid April or later the mountains are at their peak. The best. Plus the energy is in the air of a new season, you can feel it. Best time to travel. I like to take a week and combine one or two (or more) ski mountain jaunts out west with something touristy , like visiting the Grand Canyon.

But a train trip sounds interesting. I been checking out getting a rail pass and maybe trying one of the classic routes. Maybe "City of New Orleans" or the "Empire Builder"

Cheaper than I can drive and found a reasonable hotel close to train station. Going to be a museum weekend.

I don't like driving through Oklahoma so I'll go by way of Nashville from Canton MI. I usually get 45 mpg (diesel) with my 2010 VW Jetta TDI SportWagen with the cruise set at 65 mph. I know you are suppose to say break a leg, but afraid that might happen:::: Thats a skier's injury, snowboarders never break a leg, but they do commonly break their wrists though ...Its a very benign sport, hard to get injured unless you hit a tree or something.

First stop Gore Mountain near Lake George, then Lake Placid then Jay Peak in Vermont. Then a quick run to Mt Tremblant, and if I have time a run to Ste Anne outside Quebec City. One day snowboarding at each mountain. This will take a week.
