What good is better mileage if the price of diesel is near 50 cents per gallon more than regular? This negates any savings on mileage. It wasn't long ago when diesel fuel cost less than regular.

A diesel makes sense if you have a long commute not other wise.

And diesels can burn BioDiesel. Then they smell like chicken (or is that "taste like"). Diesels are easily converted to run on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). LNG is the cleanest of all organic fuels.
Drawback: Diesels are expensive to service.

Hybrids are just as expensive. A prius costs about the same as a Jetta TDI.

A better thing to do would be to seek ways to get off oil.

I detest diesel. Stinks and no matter what they do it is dirty.. Engines are more expensive to work on too.

Like most things in life, its a choice and a toss-up. Better mileage, stronger built, longer lasting engines, or a 3 year throw-away.

Diesel fuel is less likely to change from day to day like gasoline seems to do! Well around here anyway!

Remember when diesel fuel was cheap? Remember when Clinton instituted a high diesel tax? This was during some Nafta, or health care, baloney so we wouldn't notice that everything that we touch, wear, eat, look at, smell and use just got taxed big time. Somehow it makes you realize that there is only 1 political issue. $$$$$$

Clean Diesel is at least better than the Hybrid and Electric car choices out there. They are going to cost about the same and when the higher electric bills start coming in from cap and trade, they will probably costs less to operate. Take note that the person offering up these degrading remarks about clean diesel is the senior editor for the "green car advisor". Pretty expected comments coming from him.
