You should see the photo of dozens of caribou gathering under an above-ground section of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline (oil's hot); the photos show an obviously cold day. A photo's worth a thousand words. I wish the preservationists would get their facts straight before fear-mongering in the public media. Garbage in, garbage out. Alaska's a pawn of the U.S. preservationist movement. (I've been an environmentalist and a conservationist and steward of the land since 1968. Others seem determined to to turn Alaska into a museum trinket. I see no humor in that.)

There was concern caribou wouldn't tolerate the oil pipeline. Wrong. They stand under it to absorb the radiant heat on cold days. Our caribou are doing OK with or without the oil industry, thank you. I wish more people had good information; with good facts, it's easier to form a good and proper opinion.
