It could be sitting on the surface, and the california sinators won't let it be used; all the offshore resources off limits; they prefer foreign crude oil

Go look at the Baker Hughes weekly rig count. Last week, there were 1113 rigs looking for oil, gas, or geothermal energy.
So don't be putting words in our mouth that don't belong there.

Hide them from sight to keep them in production. Oil below ground and oil pollution above. How many LA residents know they are there and what they are doing?

lots of pumps; but not production to show for it; danger of toxic messy spills abound in the city

BH24 from Arkansas...
"Oh Pish Posh", said my Aunt Fannie, as she was too polite to swear! Get your facts straight, and do your homework!
This isn't "secret" Oil to anyone in the Oil Business! There have been hundred of news articles. Nor is it an example of Big Oil's sinister and secretive ways. Drilling has been going on for over 100 years.
The original 'Green' crowd was instrumental in getting environmental regulations instituted in California to clean up these fields many decades ago. And you will note those regs did not kill the Goose who laid, and continues to lay the Golden Eggs.
This story is an excellent example of Oil Companies, EPA, and Environmental Activists working effectively in concert to produce the product.

That's it. The secret is out. Undoubtedly the picketing and protests will begin in and around the Los Angeles area. The "Green" crowd will doubtless consider the "hidden production" of crude oil as just one more example of "Big Oil" and its sinister and secretive ways.

LA is just one toxic stew...oil beneath the ground and oil emissions in the air above the ground.

They have been pumping out oil in the LA basin for at least the last 80+ years. They just hide them now.

Since we have no national oil company, the for-profit globfl corporations which pump oil from the US sell it on world markets for top dollar to anyone. The "drill here, drill now" mantra chanted by dittoheads is meaningless.

In Oklahoma, there's at least one pumpjack on the grounds of the State Capitol. From what I've heard, it's emblazoned with the logo of the famous company that runs it.

To a smaller extent we have this going on in the Detroit Metro area. Unfortunately none under my house. I may not even own the mineral rights. I never checked.
