Good point. Considering the US uses approximately 20M barrels per day. How long will this field last even if these numbers are accurate?

Prices will not be effected by this 'maybe' new strike.

The key word in this story is "may" hold more than 100 million barrels of oil.

I've said it before. Don't worry about domestic production. We just suck dry the rest of the planet and then have a monopoly when the world comes here...

Sounds big. But a super tanker holds more than 3,000,000 barrels. How long will this field last?

Huge ditto to altima2008. Unfortunately, the aimless and clueless new prez got plenty of myopic followers in DC.

No matter how much oil is out there, the Europeans and OBAMMAMAU and the DEM's want to lower your standard of living with their GlobAl One World EnvironmentAl Crap and Tax Treaty. Thats why Frau Merkil was here in America today addressing our Congress to push her/their GlobAl Warming crap. A report out today says our buddy Al Gore has made over $2,000,000.00 in the last 3 or 4 years on this very subject of GlobAl Warming. I can tell you, Al F-ing Gore dosent believe in GlobAl Warming any more than All the Dems or I do. What He dose believe in is He and they can make Money off of it and gain more Control and Power over the people of this country using it. Like the Med Bill, Boxer and the Dems what to ram this legislation down our throats as fast as they can before we try to object strenuously to our lowered standard of living.

A drop in the bucket; get used to driving a small car. For the want of an SUV or a truck we didn't need, we sold our souls to OPEC and the Chinese. There's nothing left anyone else wants to buy. We'll have to start working hard to earn back what our fathers earned for us. Without using smoke and mirrors.

Its a shame that nobama will not let us get in on that. He'd rather see us pay $4.00 a gallon for fuel and run the country further into the ground!

We are running out of oil because our rate of use is greater than the rate at which we are discovering it. Most of the oil now being found in difficult to drill locations and needs expensive extraction technolgy.

Every drop in the barrel helps, especially if it's from a more friendly barrel.... sure would be nice if some more of these discoveries were on this side of the pond, though..... but then someone has to actively be looking...... it helps.....

Every discovery is important because all the easy oil is on a decline and the price of oil is making it more economically feasible to produce oil fields such as Bakken.

We need them to glut supply while we continue to conserve. Only then will gas prices go back to levels more typical of recent decades than the past few years have been.

Using the info provided in Georgeo's link, looks like about 37 years of oil left. It will be interesting, but I won't be around to see it.

sounds like a lot of crude, but a drop in the bucket the way demand continues increasing. The problem is not supply, but curbing demand. Let's get ourselves weaned off the oil spigot.

On an annual scale, this increase in supply is much smaller than day-to-day fluctuations in supply and demand.
